Heavy metals may also disrupt disulfide bonds due to theirnhigh affinity and attraction for sulfur and also lead to denaturation of proteins. Metal ions dissociate and bind to a portion of the protein. An advantage of this type of precipitation, that they have great power precipitation in dilute solution. These ions can be classified into three groups. Ions such as Mn 2 +, Fe2 +, Co2 +, Ni2 +, Zn 2 + and Cd 2 + binds strongly to carboxylic acids and nitrogen compounds.
