Colored and Normal Contact Lenses – Not Mere Fashion Accessories

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Can looks kill? Well we don’t know about that, but a pair of piercing eyes certainly can! The eyes once called the ‘windows to the human soul’ have since become the tool to present a whole new you. Your eyes are the most noticeable facial feature and can enhance your personality when projected the right way. Depending upon perception and cultural setting, the color of the eyes may reflect a person’s traits too. For example, dark intense eyes are purported to be the associated with seers, soothsayers and even criminals. Blue eyes are synonymous with royalty and have a certain sex appeal. Brown eyes are apparently ‘dreamy’ and romantic, while green eyes are believed to suggest feline qualities. The hold of the color of eyes on the human psyche is for real; no wonder people go to great lengths to showcase them, mold them modify them.

Enter the era of contact lenses – visual add-ons that serve dual roles, that of visual correction as well as a beauty aid. Normal lenses are usually used for therapeutic purposes as a substitute for glasses. These colorless eye lenses are manufactured with an ophthalmic value and have the requisite magnification number as recommended by the ophthalmologist. The lenses are transparent and preserve your true eye color. For those seeking colored eyes there are in fact a host of choices. Colored lenses are usually favored by those looking to mold their natural looks with a pair of arresting eyes. There exist a range of colored lenses to add to your aesthetic appeal. The fun with colored lenses mean that they can be worn by almost anyone, as long as you take your overall persona into consideration. Present the right image by opting for the appropriate eye color depending upon the occasion. Try wearing a subtle shade for an afternoon engagement and a bold striking pair for an evening out.

The common variety of colored eye lenses is opaque and tinted variety. Opaque lenses do not allow the original eye color to be seen and are used by those who want to conceal their original eye color. Tinted colored lenses allow the original eye color to be seen and are used by people who wish to enhance the original color of their eyes. Colored lenses also have an added advantage over normal lenses in that they have inbuilt UV protection. This helps protect your precious pair from harsh sunlight. If you wear prescription lenses but wish to enchant your audience with a pair of distinctive colored lenses, try colored contacts that have the corrective properties. These dual lenses have the magnification factor desired inbuilt. Ensure however that you don’t compromise on quality over cost; combining the color and magnification requires a high degree of industrial precision and this makes the high-quality colored lenses rather pricey.

The cheaper ones may even cause blurring of vision due to the color introduced by substandard manufacturing processes. And the engineering difficulties involved mean that very high magnifications cannot be introduced into colored lenses. While this may seem like bad news for those with much weaker eyes, you know that you are getting the best out of your normal transparent lens where the corrective power is well retained. Finally, whether you are looking for prescription contact lenses, or a pair to enhance your looks, the market provides a dazzling array – just pick the pair for you and be your own fashion icon!

Change Your Eye Color With Freshlook Contact Lenses

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Freshlook contact lenses are colored lenses that are manufactured by a company known as Ciba Vision. There are a wide range of different colored contacts that you can obtain through this popular contact brand. Regardless if you are looking for a subtle look, or something that is a little bit out of this world, you will definitely find the contacts that you want with this particular brand of lenses.

Before you run out to purchase a pair of Freshlook contact lenses, you need to bear in mind that these lenses are made for medical reasons. However, you may also be able to find these lenses without a prescription, since the fascination of being able to change your eye color is so impressive.

There are a plethora of different places that sell these lenses. However, depending on where you obtain your lenses from is going to depend on your particular case. If you utilize contact lenses or glasses for vision ailments, then you will need to go to an eye doctor first, to have your eyes checked, so you can ensure that you are obtaining the right prescription that you need.

Some of the most popular Freshlook lenses are the lighter color shades. Shades such as blue, green and even more exotic looks are increasing in popularity. The great thing is, regardless if you use these lenses to see or if you utilize them simply to change your eye color; you can wear them wherever you venture to.

There are a few small things that you should bear in mind concerning these lenses. You need to stick to a regular lens schedule. This means, you need to ensure that every night that you keep your lenses in a sanitizer solution, to ensure that nothing gets built up on the lenses.

Before you ever put the lenses into your eye, you need to ensure that they are clean, and are moist as well. Lenses that have dried up will not work as planned. In fact, putting dry contact lenses into your eye can actually ruin your eye, a lot more than it does it justice.

The lenses should never be shared with anyone else. Inadvertently, you shouldn’t take your lenses out of your eyes for your friends to use. This sounds kind of silly, but there are a lot of people that attempt to wear their lenses in this matter.

It is imperative that before you obtain your Freshlook contact lenses that you educate yourself on the way that the lenses should be worn as well as on the basic handling and cleaning processes that must be followed with these popular eye changing lenses.

However, if you’re adventurous, you may want to try some of the other lenses that Freshlook has in stock. There are lenses that are known as dimensions lenses, that actually not only change your eye color, but also change the appearance of your eye as well. These lenses add an extra layer of depth and volume to your eyes, and are becoming more and more irresistible.

Are You a Candidate for Lasik Surgery?

Monday, January 16th, 2012

For many people who are fed up with wearing contact lenses or glasses on a daily basis, LASIK surgery can be a very attractive alternative. LASIK is a procedure that uses an excimer laser to reshape your cornea to eliminate irregularities and help improve retinal focusing.

Laser eye surgery has a very good success rate. The vast majority of LASIK patients have been very happy with the results. However, as with all surgery, the benefits come with their share of risks. Depending on your situation, these risks may or may not be worth the reward for you. It is important to discuss these risks with an experienced laser eye surgeon to determine if you are an ideal candidate for LASIK surgery.

The Ideal LASIK Candidate

LASIK is ideally suited to improve moderate refractive errors such as:

· Nearsightedness

· Farsightedness

· Astigmatism

If your refractive errors are very severe (if you have a strong prescription), the surgery may not be as effective. You might want to discuss alternative refractive surgery procedures with your LASIK surgeon if you have a very strong prescription.

In general, a good candidate for LASIK:

· Is 21 or older

· Is in good overall health

· Does not have any corneal disease

· Is not pregnant or nursing a child

· Has reasonable expectations for the results and understands the risks involved

Factors that Hurt your Candidacy for LASIK

There are several factors that may make laser eye surgery a less-than-ideal option for you. The risks associated with LASIK increase if you have:

· An immune system disease: Diseases such as HIV or rheumatoid arthritis, which impact your immune system, may complicate the healing process after surgery. Immune system diseases also increase the likelihood of infection and many other complications following LASIK.

· Dry eyes: Dry eyes are a common complication following LASIK. If you chronically experience dry eyes before your surgery, it will most likely prevent proper healing and magnify this complication once surgery is complete.

· Severe corneal irregularities: If you have very thin or abnormally shaped corneas, it will be difficult for your ophthalmologist to perform the surgery. There will also be a greater risk of overcorrections or undercorrections in your surgery.

· Unstable vision: Your vision must be stable for at least two years in order to qualify for LASIK surgery. If your vision is currently fluctuating, you should not have the surgery.

· Large pupils: Large pupils can lead to serious complications with night vision after LASIK, such as glare, halos, and star bursts.

The Cost Factor

One final factor to consider is cost. While LASIK has come down in price over the years, it is still an expensive procedure. Since this is considered elective surgery, most insurance companies will not reimburse you. You may want to make sure that LASIK fits into your budget before choosing to go ahead with the surgery.

Buy Discount Contact Lenses Online – Save Your Money

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

Now it’s easy to order the perfect contact lenses online at a great discount. Contact lens sales are regulated by the FDA (Food And Drug Administration) and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission.) Among the many kinds of contact lenses you can buy are: novelty, colored, crazy, Halloween, special effects, theatrical, costume, scary, glow in the dark, wild eyes, mirrored, black, white, and red.

You’ll want to take simple precautions to make any lens purchase safe and effective. There are 75 million contact lens wearers worldwide and 31 million in the U.S. alone.

If you live an active lifestyle, NIGHT & DAY breathable lenses will allow you 30 hours of continuous wear. Disposable lenses don’t come with instructions for cleaning and disinfecting, while those labeled specifically for planned replacement do. Extended wear contact lenses are used for overnight or continuous wear ranging from one to six nights or up to 30 days.

The expiration date for your prescription is currently set by your state requiring a one-year or two-year renewal; if your state hasn’t set a minimum expiration date, government regulation sets a one-year date unless your eye doctor determines there’s a medical reason for less than one year. The length of continuous lens wear depends on the lens type and your doctor’s evaluation of your tolerance for overnight wear. Bifocal correction is possible with both soft and rigid lenses.

Rigid gas permeable lenses tend to be less expensive over the life of the lens since they last longer than soft lenses. Keep in mind that contact lenses are often more complex than it appears. People who have good distance vision but need help for reading can get a monovision reading lens for one eye.

Rigid lenses generally give you more clear vision. You can mark rigid lenses to show which lens is for which eye; they don’t rip or tear, so they’re easy to handle.

Ask about prices at your doctor’s office when you have your eye examination, or during a follow-up visit after you get your prescription. You can buy contact lenses from an eye doctor, on the Internet, from an optical store or a warehouse club. Rebates may be available from the seller, from the manufacturer, for first-time contact lens wearers and for individuals who buy lenses and get an eye exam.

Preferably buy your contact lenses from a supplier you’re familiar with and know is reliable or has name familiarity. When you place your order make sure your lenses are available and not out of stock, because you’ll need them now. Before you buy online, check to see if there are any testimonials at the online supplier’s website.

Compare prices – get quotes from two or three online and offline suppliers. There are many good contact lens retailers now on the Internet making their lenses available at a good discount for prescription and non-prescription lenses. Beware of attempts to substitute a brand different from the one you want when buying contacts.

Don’t wear lenses any longer than they’re prescribed for, nor when sleeping unless you are otherwise directed. The FDA has approved extended-wear lenses for use up to seven days before removal for cleaning; but there are risks with use of extended-wear lenses even for one night. Basic rule: never swap your contact lenses with anyone else.

Microorganisms may be present in distilled water, so always use commercial sterile saline solutions, if you plan to use enzyme tablets in water for disinfections. Soft extended-wear lenses bind down on the closed eye, but they are porous and allow some tears through during sleep; because they have so little form, their binding has very little effect on the shape of the eye. Extended-wear rigid lenses can cause unexpected, undesirable, reshaping of the cornea.

Make sure you’ve done your homework before you buy any pair of contact lenses. Ordering discount contact lenses online has never been simpler with, and sometimes without, a credit card. If you prefer the way you look without glasses or find glasses to be cumbersome and awkward, contacts can provide the ease, convenience and comfort you need.
